Well, this last week of football for the Basha Football program brought about blowouts, no matter which game you observed or was interested in. For the most part, the same happens from earlier in the season were found to be the case against Hamilton.

The Varsity Bears were run over by the Huskies and couldn’t find a break so change the momentum of the game whatsoever. The Huskies scored early and often, in route to a 55-0 victory over the Bears. The Bears are now 2-7 heading into the bye week.

Our JV Bears however, did keep up their winning ways by blowing out the Hamilton Huskies at home 54-14. Per the coaching staff, this was only the second time that a Bear football team (at any level) had beaten the Huskies. Congratulations to the JV team on that stat and the big win. The JV Bears are now 8-1 moving into the bye week.

Like the Varsity Bears, the Freshman Bears suffered a similar loss 50-0. The team is trying hard, but just not able to create much success. The Freshman team moved to 2-6 on the season heading into the bye week.

The Basha Bears football program has a bye week this upcoming week of the season. The Bears next action will be against the Perry Pumas the last week of the season, the schedule then will be as follows;

10/25/2017; @ 6pm- Freshman, Basha at Perry

10/26/2017; @ 6pm- Junior Varsity, Perry at Basha

10/27/2017; @ 7pm- Varsity, Basha at Perry

Basha Gridiron Club – GO BEARS!!!

The first week of fall break seem to provide some needed relief to the Basha Football Program. This week brought about play against Brophy Broncos and Senior Night for the Varsity team. Thank you to ALL of the 2018 Seniors, you have provided some magnificent memories and highlights for this program. We all hope that the next chapter of your lives are great to you and your families.

This Varsity was able to flip what had been happening to them in the past weeks and do that too Brophy. The Bears jumped on the Broncos early and kept the pressure on all evening. The Bears played a very good game and beat the Broncos 47-13, sending the Seniors out on high note at home. The Bears improved their record to 2-6 on the season.

Like the Varsity, the Junior Varsity Bears held the JV Broncos to just 13 points at Brophy Sports Complex. The JV Bears were not without mistakes, they committed a couple of early ones that Brophy was not able to take control of the game. However, when Brophy committed like mistakes, the JV Bears jumped on them and seemingly took control of the game, winning 30-13. With another victory in the win column, the JV Bears are now 6-1, with the last two games at home.

The Freshman Bears were run over quickly on Wednesday night, as the Freshman Broncos ran rough shot over them. The Freshman Bears lost 36-13. The Bears record is now 2-5.

The Basha Bears football program will be playing the Hamilton Huskies next week, the schedule is as follows;

10/11/2017; @ 6pm- Freshman, Basha at Hamilton

10/12/2017; @ 6pm- Junior Varsity, Hamilton at Basha

10/13/2017; @ 7pm- Varsity, Basha at Hamilton

Basha Gridiron Club – GO BEARS!!!

The week 7 highlights marked several aspects to the calendar for the Basha Bear Program.  First and foremost, the beginning of league play and the Chandler Wolves were on the schedule.  Second, the conclusion to the first quarter of the school year and fall break beginning.  Third, probably what most of us do not want to hear and that is that we are quickly nearing the end of the high school football season.

The Varsity Bears hosted the Wolves in a Thursday night game due to the Friday evening observance of Yom Kipper.  The Wolves took control in the first half and never let go.  The beginning of league play for the Bears ended in a 58-21 loss at John Wall Stadium.  Unfortunately for the Bears, it marked their sixth straight consecutive loss on the year putting them 1-6.   However, through this losing streak, they are not giving up on any game and are continuing to fight to the final whistle.

The JV Bears played Wednesday evening at Chandler High School.  The Bears tried hard but were unable to get the breaks to go their way before losing 35-7.   For the JV Bears, this was their first loss of the season and I’m sure a tough one to swallow considering their success this season.   The JV Bears are no longer undefeated and fall to 5-1 on the season.

The Freshman Bears ran into a buzz saw Wednesday evening at home.  The Wolves came out strong and put it on the Bears beating them 56-0.   The Bears tried hard but were just no match for the Chandler Wolves Freshman team.  The loss by the Freshman Bears brings their record to 2-4.

The Basha Bears football program will be playing the Brophy Broncos next week, the schedule is as follows;

10/4/2017; @ 6pm- Freshman, Brophy at Basha
10/5/2017; @ 6pm- Junior Varsity, Basha at Brophy (at Brophy Sports Complex, 4800 N. 7th Street, Phoenix AZ, 85014)
10/6/2017; @ 7pm- Varsity, Brophy at Basha (Senior Night)

Basha Gridiron Club – GO BEARS!!!

The Basha Bears celebrated many touchdowns scored against the Mesa Jackrabbits this week as shown in the picture.  As the Bears finished up the last week of non-league play against Mesa High, the opportunity to win all three football games by the Basha Bears program was there for the taking as Varsity entered into Friday’s game for the second straight week.

The Varsity team traveled to Mesa, to play the Jackrabbits hoping to spoil the evenings festivities on night, when Mesa was celebrating their homecoming and having some of their great alumni in attendance.  Basha struck early with a field goal to grab a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.  It wouldn’t be the only lead of the night for the Bears, the Bears came from behind three times in this game to take the lead.  The Bears would not give up on the opportunity to try to claim their second victory of the season and showed good resilience as team.  Unfortunately for the Bears, Mesa responded in the fourth quarter with 10 unanswered points to put the game almost out of reach.  The Bears lost 31-29 and fell to 1-5 on the season.

The JV Bears played host to the Mesa Jackrabbits, hoping to extend their winning streak to five and remain unbeaten for the season.  The JV Bears also had shutout streak in place going into this game that unfortunately fell in the second quarter when the JV Jackrabbits returned a kickoff for a touchdown.  It was the first points allowed by the JV Bears team in over 11 quarters of action.  The defense of the JV Bears also had shutout streak snapped in this game, they surrendered their first points in over 13 quarters, in the fourth quarter.  However, those points scored by Mesa would not be enough to claim victory, the JV Bears scored quite frequently and often to win this game 52-24.  The JV Bears are now 5-0 and travel to rival Chandler next week.

The Freshman Bears played another solid game this week on the road.  They traveled to Mesa and extended their winning streak to two straight with a 41-8 win.  Both of the wins in this streak have come on the road and have been lopsided.  The Freshman Bears move to 2-3 on the season.

The Basha Bears football program will be starting league action this week by playing the Chandler Wolves, the schedule is as follows;

9/27/2017; @ 6pm- Freshman, Chandler at Basha
9/27/2017; @ 6pm- Junior Varsity, Basha at Chandler (**Wednesday Game, due to Varsity game on Thursday**)
9/28/2017; @ 7pm- Varsity, Chandler at Basha (**Thursday Evening Cox TV game**)

Basha Gridiron Club – GO BEARS!!!

As football play began this week for the Basha Bears, multiple streaks were alive and kicking. The Freshman Bears were winless in three games and were struggling to put points on the board versus giving up almost three times as many. The JV Bears were undefeated so far this season and had shutout the last two opponents. The Varsity Bears had lost three straight by falling behind big early and then attempting to rally late, only to fall short. Here is how the streaks either continued or came to and end.

The Bears playing on the road for the first time in month, traveled to Scottsdale to play the Desert Mountain Wolves. This week the Bears kept the game close through more than the first quarter. However, after surrendering great field position, several costly penalties and interception for a touchdown. The Bears trailed 27-3 at half. The Wolves scored their last touchdown of the night early in the third quarter before the Bears responded with two touchdowns and field goal in the same quarter to shrink the Wolves lead to 34-18. The Bears would get one more touchdown on the night, as time expired, to lose 34-24. The Bears are 1-4 on the season and play another road game next week.

The good football news for the program so far this season has come from the Junior Varsity and that continued this week. The JV Bears seem to at times, appear as if they were strolling through the Wolves defense untouched for touchdowns all night. The JV Bears streaks definitely continued this week, they remain undefeated by winning their fourth straight and for the third straight week, they kept the opponents off the scoreboard, as the JV Bears won 49-0, in their first home game of this season. The JV Bears are now 4-0.

The Freshman Bears put an end to their streaks this week. In the games prior, they had scored an average just over 11 points per game, while giving up almost 40 points per game. A recipe for going winless to start the season. However, the Freshman Bears scored a 49-7 blowout victory on the road this week, flipping their streaks on their heads and getting their first win of the season. The Freshman are now 1-3 on the season.

The Basha Bears football program will be playing the Mesa Jackrabbits this week, the schedule is as follows;

9/20/2017; @ 6pm- Freshman, Basha at Mesa

9/21/2017; @ 6pm- Junior Varsity, Mesa at Basha

9/22/2017; @ 7pm- Varsity, Basha at Mesa

Basha Gridiron Club – GO BEARS!!!

Game Highlights, Week 4

This week was Homecoming for the Basha Bears and they were not only battling the Red Mountain Lions, but also the weather.   First of all, congratulations Varsity Linebacker Mason Browning for being selected Homecoming King.  As noted, storms were in the area, with lightning nearby and a strong breeze Friday night the Bears battled against the Lions, only to come up short.   The Bears fell behind early again this game but attempted to rally in the 4th quarter, but ended up losing 27-21.   After three straight home games and three straight losses, the Bears head back onto the road for next weeks game.   The Bears are presently 1-3 on the season.

As noted earlier, weather was issue last week and that seems to be the only thing stopping the Junior Varsity Bears after three weeks of competition.  On the road to play the Red Mountain Lions, last week, the JV team took a quick lead on Red Mountain and added to it as weather moved in.   Dust blew in and lightning flashed across the sky as the Bears won a weather shortened game 25-0, at half.    The JV Bears have started 3-0 this season and now have consecutive shutouts.   These Bears will play their home opener this week.

The Freshman Red Mountain Lions were late to arrive to John Wall Stadium to play the Bears, due to transportation issues.  But they were definitely ready to play some football.  The Freshman Bears struggled against the Red Mountain Lions, losing 49-0.  They will play their first road this week.

The Basha Bears football program will be playing the Desert Mountain Wolves this week, the schedule is as follows;

9/13/2017; @ 6pm- Freshman, Basha at Desert Mountain
9/14/2017; @ 6pm- Junior Varsity, Desert Mountain at Basha
9/15/2017; @ 7pm- Varsity, Basha at Desert Mountain

Basha Gridiron Club – GO BEARS!!!

The Basha Bears football program has taken the field for the 2017 Football Season.  The Bears program is getting the opportunity to play on a brand new grass turf field, that looks amazing.  This past week, the Bears fell behind early to Desert Vista 19-0 at John Wall Stadium, but by the end of the first half the Bears had scored twice to close the margin to 19-13.   Unfortunately, in the second half the Bears were unable to take to the lead and lost to the Thunder 29-19.  The Bears are now 1-2 on the season as we move into the month of September.

The Junior Varsity kept up their winning ways as we finish the month of August.  In a penalty filled game, the Bears were able to overcome their mistakes and shutout the Desert Vista Thunder 20-0.  The JV football team moved its record to 2-0 with another road game coming up.

The Freshman football team has struggled to start the season, opening with back to back losses both of them at home.  This past week, they fought hard in a low scoring game, only to come up short 13-7 to Desert Vista.  The Freshman team is now 0-2 for the 2017 season.
